Jayasuriya: LBW in Nervous Nineties

It is difficult for the batsman to digest the decision of leg before wicket, whether it is right or wrong, and if he is playing into the nineties it is more painful. Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya becomes the latest victim of LBW into the nineties.
He was out leg before of the bowling of Ashish Nehra during the league match of the Tri series at the R. Premadasa stadium, Colombo.

However this is not the first time that Jayasuriya lost his wicket in similar fashion. In fact he created the world record of most time lost the wicket by out LBW into the nervous nineties.

This is the 3rd occasion when Jayasuriya out LBW in the nineties.
India’s Virender Sehwag has done it twice.

West Indies’ former opener Gordon Greenidge was the first batsman to be out LBW in nervous 90s (96 Vs India at Indore in 1983-84). The chairman of the current Indian selection committee K Srikkanth and former Australian opener Mathew Hayden lost their wicket LBW when they were playing on 99.
There are 19 batsmen out LBW while playing into the nervous nineties and 6 of them are Sri Lankans with 3 each from India and Australia.
