New Zealand captain Daniel Vetteri could not save his team by losing against Sri Lanka at Colombo (SSC) but by batting at No. 8 he created a world record of most runs in the 4th innings of the test. He scored 140 runs and overtook the previous record of Mitchell Johnson of Australia. Johnson scored 123 (not out) against South Africa at Cape Town in this season. Only 10 batsmen have scored hundred in the 4th innings of the match by batting at No. 8.
The highest score at this number in any innings of the test match is 257 (by Wasim Akram, Pakistan Vs Zimbabwe, Sheikhupura, 1996-97).
Wasim Akram and Imtiaz Ahmed of Pakistan are the only cricketers who scored double hundred by batting at No. 8.
This was the 3rd century by Vettori on this batting order. He had scored hundred by batting at No. 9.
